To launch Salford Makers, our showcase project was the transformation of a former show home property into a pop-up shop.
Our mission was to curate a range of high quality and affordable products made by established artists based at Islington Mill.
Located in the midst of the Chapel St, Salford Makers SHOP was an inclusive and welcoming space in the heart of our creative community.
“We wanted our SHOP to contrast with the standard consumer experience; a chance to meet the artists who made the work”. – Julia Roy-Williams
Customers were engaged with the processes and concepts behind the pieces, and even got involved in making themselves. The SHOP also gave us a platform to engage with the public, and share the diverse participatory workshop programme we were launching.
“The ethos of Salford Makers is rooted in encouraging the development of new skills, and sharing through making to support wellness and positivity”.
The SHOP was stocked and staffed by a collective of artists, designers, educators and makers based at Islington Mill. Unique work for the space included textiles, lighting, ceramics, jewellery, clothing, and accessories.
