Marie’s work explores various forms from combining computer generated visuals with more traditional and tactile mediums such as needlework and knitting, to photographing still life sets of objects often led by curiosity and humour. In the past year Marie’s practice has focussed on demonstrating the parallels of typography within textiles, particularly those created with hobbyist craft techniques.
With a background in Graphic Arts and Lecturing in higher education Marie began to focus full time on her artistic practice in 2017. In April – June she was selected as artist in residence at Islington Mill where her studio is based as part of Manchester International Festivals opening event ‘What is the City But the People?’ an idea by Jeremy Deller.
In September, Marie and New York born, Manchester based artist Stina Puotinen were selected for the Autumn 2017 Launch Pad, CURIO CURIA at Castlefield Gallery, Manchester. Guest artists included; Aliyah Hussain, John-Powell Jones, Adam Griffiths & Patti Crozier.
Last year, Marie launched Ride Your Pony, an annual international group exhibition and residency with 26 participants from across the globe including an array of Artists, Designers, Illustrators, Photographers, and Makers. The inaugural show was a success and Liverpool School of Art asked to host the exhibition during feb/mar 2018. Ride Your Pony No.02 will exhibit as part of the 2018 Liverpool Independents Biennial in October.
Recently commissioned as part of ‘I Don’t Love Soccer Because Soccer Has Never Loved Me’ a collection of on-going artworks in response to an Umberto Eco essay. Marie’s commission was featured in The Observer Art online/print Jun 2018, Exhibited at Camp & Furnace, Liverpool Jun-Jul with 26 artists incl. Jonathan Barnbrook, Genevieve Gauckler, Joe Magee & Patrick Thomas.
In May 2018 Marie was awarded Artists International Development Funding from Arts Council England, for a 6 month practice based R&D project on sculptural weaving with Elise Zoetmulder based in The Netherlands.
